The animated film Bajrangi Bhaijaan is based on the true story of a little girl who is taken to the US in exchange for the safety of her father, who was imprisoned in Pakistan. The love shown between Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor in the film has won them both rave reviews and accolades. But did you know that this movie had an unusual title? That's because it was originally titled "Bajrangi Bhaijaan-The True Story of an Unusual Friendship". It had to be renamed due to copyright complications, but there is still some confusion about whether this animated film depicts a true story or not. So is Bajrangi Bhaijaan based on a true story? Can one human being actually change the course of another's destiny? Because that is what the movie suggests. Bajrangi Bhaijaan begins with a young Pakistani girl who gets separated from her parents during a trip to India. The little girl, Geeta, ends up in Pakistan after running away from home without informing anyone. Geeta is sold off to an Indian couple who agree to adopt her if they are paid enough money. The couple decides to keep their promise but are unable to do so because of their economic status. They then approach the Indian authorities with Geeta, seeking assistance to send her back to Pakistan. The government then asks Geeta's father to help them get Geeta home safely. But there's a problem. The father is in prison in Pakistan for some time now. The Indian government decides to send Geeta to India through a prisoner exchange program, but her father is reluctant about the idea. He believes that if he goes back his daughter will be killed. He doesn't want her to get caught up in all this mess just because of him. However, the government continues with the plan and asks him to choose between his daughter and his freedom by letting her go alone or losing both forever. It's a really hard choice and the father decides to let his daughter go. He also promises that if she gets caught he will do everything in order to get her back. For the next few days Geeta is kept in a safe house with her new Indian family. Life seems like it is going well for Geeta and her parents start to trust their new host family because of their efforts to make Geeta feel comfortable and happy living among them. But soon things start turning sour for the Pakistani family, as they notice all sorts of strange happenings around them: mysterious knocks at night, groups of people camped out around their house over night and unusual calls, emails and letters arriving from an unknown source. The family starts to suspect that Geeta is in grave danger, however she has already left the country. The family decides to go into hiding and not leave their house at all. A few days pass and the Indian couple finally figures out that they are being stalked by Pakistani policemen who want to take Geeta back to Pakistan with them against her father’s will. They run off without their passports and work desperately hard to stay one step ahead of the Pakistani men.
